There are three important signs in the development of powder metallurgy technology

1. Overcome the difficulties in the process of refractory metal melting and casting. The manufacture of tungsten wires for electric lamps in 1909 promoted the development of powder metallurgy; the emergence of powder metallurgy cemented carbide in 1923 was hailed as a revolution in machining.
2. In the 1930s, porous oil-impregnated bearings were successfully produced; then the development of powder metallurgy iron-based mechanical parts gave full play to the advantages of powder metallurgy with little or no cutting.
3. To develop towards more advanced new materials and new processes. In the 1940s, cermets, dispersion strengthening and other materials appeared. From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, powdered high-speed steel and powdered high-temperature alloy appeared one after another; the use of powder metallurgy forging and hot isostatic pressing has been able to produce high-strength parts.
